Koh Racha – A Most Beautiful Destination
The islands of Koh Raya have been an almost exclusive paradise for diving and sailing for years!
Our next sailing destination is Koh Racha Yai and Koh Racha Noi, two beautiful islands just off the south-east coast of Phuket island. Koh Racha, also known as Koh Raya offers crystal clear blue waters. The islands have been an almost exclusive paradise for diving and sailing for years! Koh Raya lies due south of Phuket; approximately 20 kilometers as the crow flies; a comfortable day’s cruise for a sailing catamaran. With Racha Yai’s white sand beaches and expanding accommodations, Racha Yai is growing in popularity year for year.
The focus of the island is Batok Beach which is where most of the visiting boats and sailing yachts choose to anchor. At the focus of this perfect, soft, sandy beach is the Racha Resort. This luxury hotel is popular with visitors as a place to lunch or stopover for the night when they are sailing south of Phuket. The underwater visibility is normally around 30 meters or more which makes it a great place for scuba diving and snorkeling. A bit further to the south is Racha Noi which also offers some great dive sites to discover.
The Clearest Water
Patok Bay
This is a stunning enclosed bay with inviting turquoise water. The bay contains many coral formations and provides good snorkeling. There are many varieties of fish and sea fauna to enjoy. There is a lovely wide beach with powdery white sand. There is one major resort here set into the hillside. The Racha Resort is a luxurious 5-star hotel.
Slow down at Racha!
Much of the interior of the island is steep, forested hills. You can follow walking tracks around the island. You will see a few coconut plantations and water buffalos grazing peacefully. The pace of life here is slow and timeless.
